Tax Compliance Efforts

Recent updates on tax compliance in Kenya highlight the government’s efforts to modernize the tax system and increase revenue collection. Key changes include the integration of digital platforms like pay bills and till numbers with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to improve tax reporting efficiency. This will be fully implemented by December 2024, along with the introduction of Virtual Electronic Tax Receipts (ETRs), allowing KRA to monitor transactions more effectively through AI and machine learning.

This reform aims to combat tax evasion and ensure higher compliance, particularly targeting the informal sector, which has been historically under-taxed​
